No one in heaven or earth could open it. Then came the Lamb.
📖Based on Revelation 5:1
The book was there from the beginning of the vision.
In the right hand of him that sat on the throne.
Written within and on the backside.
Sealed with seven seals.
A strong angel proclaimed with a loud voice: Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
The question went out across heaven. Across earth. Under the earth.
No man.
No creature.
No power that had ever existed.
No one in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
John wept much.
Not politely. Not quietly. Much.
Because if the book remained sealed, the purposes of God for human history remained locked. The story had no resolution. The judgments, the redemption, the new creation — all of it waited on the opening.
And then one of the elders said: Weep not.
The Lion of the tribe of Judah hath prevailed to open the book.
John looked.
Expecting a lion.
He saw a Lamb.
As it had been slain.
Standing in the midst of the throne.
The Lamb took the book.
And the four living creatures fell down. The twenty-four elders fell down. They had harps and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
And they sang a new song.
Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof.
For thou wast slain.
The whole of human history — every seal, every trumpet, every judgment, every rescue — waited on the worthiness of the one who had been slain.
And the Lamb was worthy.
He always had been.

Reflection

The sealed book shows that history is not random. It is a scroll with content — with a plan and a purpose.
›
Only the slain Lamb is worthy to open what God has written. Worthiness comes through sacrifice.
