The Four Living Creatures

The storm came from the north.

A great cloud. Fire infolding itself. A brightness around it.

Out of the midst of the fire, something like glowing amber.

And out of the midst — four living creatures.

Each had four faces: the face of a man, the face of a lion, the face of an ox, the face of an eagle.

Four wings. Straight feet. The sole of their feet like the sole of a calf's foot.

They sparkled like burnished bronze.

Under their wings, on their four sides, were human hands.

Their wings touched one another. They didn't turn when they moved.

They went wherever the spirit wanted to go. Straight. Without deviation.

And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.

Beside each creature was a wheel.

And the wheels were like a wheel within a wheel. Their rims were full of eyes.

High and dreadful.

When the creatures lifted up from the ground, the wheels lifted with them. The spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

And above the firmament over their heads was a likeness of a throne, like sapphire.

And above the throne, a likeness as the appearance of a man.

Surrounded by the appearance of fire and light.

As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain.

So was the appearance of the brightness round about.

This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.

And when Ezekiel saw it, he fell upon his face.

And heard a voice of one that spake.
