Gog and Magog

A great army came from the north. God was waiting.

📖Based on Ezekiel 38:2

The prophecy came without ceremony.

Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog.

A nation to the north. A chief prince. A gathering that would include many peoples, many armies, many nations drawn together like a fishhook pulling at their jaws.

They would come like a storm.

Like a cloud covering the land.

The purpose seemed clear to them: plunder. A people gathered out of many nations, who dwell in the center of the earth. Cattle and goods. Silver and gold.

Spoil.

But what seemed like a military calculation from their end was something else entirely from God's.

I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me.

The whole invasion was a setup.

Not because God wanted the destruction — but because He wanted the nations to see what happens when they move against what He has claimed.

The mountains of Israel would be the battlefield.

Shaking. Pestilence. Overflowing rain. Hailstones. Fire and brimstone.

The armies would turn their weapons on each other.

Every man's sword against his brother.

Gog would fall in the open field. The birds and beasts would be called to eat of a great sacrifice.

Seven months to bury the dead. Seven years to burn the weapons for fuel.

And the nations that watched —

Would know.

Not just that Israel had survived.

That God had intervened. Openly. Undeniably. On the mountains of Israel, in full view of every watching eye.

So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel.

The battle was the announcement.

Scripture — Ezekiel 38:2

"Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him."

Reflection

›

Gog's invasion looks like military strategy. God uses it as a platform for His own revelation.

›

The last battles of history will not be won by armies. They will be won by the God who arranged them.
