That part is never talked about enough.📖Based on Matthew 14:29The disciples had been rowing against the wind for hours. The boat was in the middle of the sea. It was the fourth watch of the night — between three and six in the morning. They saw a figure walking on the water toward them. They cried out in fear. They thought it was a ghost.Jesus called back immediately: Be of good cheer. It is I. Do not be afraid.Peter said: Lord, if it is you, bid me come to you on the water.Jesus said one word: Come. And Peter got out of the boat.He stepped over the side into the dark water in the middle of a storm.Eleven other men stayed in the boat.Eleven men who also believed, who had also seen the miracles, who also heard the word Come. But Peter got out.He walked on the water. Toward Jesus. Then he noticed the wind. And he was afraid. And he began to sink.He cried: Lord, save me.Jesus immediately stretched out his hand and caught him.He said: O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? They got into the boat and the wind ceased. The disciples worshipped him and said: Truly you are the Son of God.But Peter.Peter had stood on the surface of the sea.Even briefly. Even imperfectly. Even ending in a cry for rescue. The other eleven stayed dry and never knew what the water felt like beneath their feet.Peter sank. And was caught. And walked back to the boat.He was the only one who knew.Scripture — Matthew 14:29"And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus."Reflection›Peter's failure is famous. What deserves equal attention is that he was the only one who tried.›The water held him as long as he kept his eyes on the one who had called him onto it.PeterwaterfaithstormmiracleShare This StoryShare on WhatsApp🔗 Copy Link← Previous storyThe Linen Clothes LyingNext story →The Coin in the FishRelated StoriesThe Axe That Floated2 Kings 6:6→The Linen Clothes LyingJohn 20:6→The Coin in the FishMatthew 17:27→More from this series: all biblical mysteries · all Bible stories
