Every household. One night. The blood on the doorframe was the only difference.
📖Based on Exodus 12:13
Nine plagues had come and gone.
Egypt was broken. But Pharaoh's heart held.
God told Moses this was the last one.
After this, Pharaoh would let them go.
The instructions were specific.
Each household was to take a lamb — one without blemish, a year old — on the fourteenth day of the first month.
At twilight they were to kill it.
They were to take the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the house.
That night they would eat the lamb. Roasted with fire. With unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
Their belts fastened. Sandals on their feet. Staff in hand.
Eat in haste.
It is the LORD's Passover.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night.
I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt.
Both man and beast.
On all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments.
The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are.
When I see the blood, I will pass over you.
No plague will befall you to destroy you.
When I see the blood.
Not when I see your faith. Not when I measure your history of obedience.
When I see the blood.
The destroyer went through Egypt at midnight.
There was a great cry in Egypt. Every house.
But in the houses with blood on the doorposts.
The destroyer passed over.
Not because they were better.
Because the blood was there.
And when it was seen, it was enough.
Scripture — Exodus 12:13
"And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt."
Reflection
›
The blood was not about the person behind the door. It was about what was on the door. The covering was the protection.
›
When I see the blood — not when I approve of your life. The statement is unconditional.
