It was different from all the beasts before it. And it was dreadful.
📖Based on Daniel 7:7
Daniel had seen three beasts already in the night.
A lion. A bear. A leopard.
Each one terrible in its own way. Each representing a kingdom, an empire, a power that would roll across the earth.
Then came the fourth.
And it was different.
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly.
He watched it with great iron teeth. It devoured and broke in pieces.
What was left it stamped with its feet.
The other beasts had been restrained by their own natures. This one had no restraint.
It was diverse from all the beasts that were before it.
Not in degree. In kind.
Something categorically different from every empire that had ever existed.
Ten horns on its head.
And while Daniel was watching, a little horn came up among them.
Three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots to make room for it.
This little horn had eyes. Human eyes. A mouth speaking great things.
The look of it was more stout than its fellows.
Bigger. Louder. More confident.
It spoke against the Most High. It wore out the saints of the Most High. It changed times and laws.
But Daniel saw the end of it too.
The beast was slain. Its body destroyed and given to the burning flame.
The little horn's season had a limit.
A time, times, and the dividing of time.
Three and a half years.
And then the judgment sat.
And the Ancient of Days came.
Scripture — Daniel 7:7
"After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns."
Reflection
›
The fourth beast is unlike anything that came before. It represents an end-time empire of absolute, unprecedented power.
›
But even the most terrifying beast has a season. The Ancient of Days sets the limit.
