War in Heaven

The war in heaven was not like anything humans imagine when they think of war.

No trenches. No geography. No supply lines.

Just two forces. Ancient, powerful, operating in a dimension that human eyes could not see.

Michael and his angels fought against the dragon.

Michael — the archangel, the one whose name means who is like God. The question in his name already contained the answer to every battle he fought.

Nobody is like God.

The dragon fought back. With all of his angels. All of the power he had accumulated in his long rebellion.

And prevailed not.

Neither was their place found any more in heaven.

That phrase is the one that landed like a stone.

Their place.

He had had a place. He had occupied it. Had stood there and used it to accuse the saints — day and night, without ceasing.

That place was gone now.

He was cast out. His angels cast with him.

Down.

And the great voice from heaven sang — sang — about it.

Because the accuser of our brethren is cast down.

The one who had stood before God pointing fingers at every believer's failure, every moment of weakness, every sin confessed and forgiven.

Cast down.

But the joy of heaven came with a warning for earth.

Woe to the inhabiters of the earth.

Because the fight was not over.

It had just changed location.

And the dragon, standing on new ground, with his old fury and his shorter timeline, began to plan his next move.
