New Jerusalem

After the white throne.

After the lake of fire.

After the old earth had fled and the old heaven had gone.

After all of it.

A new heaven. A new earth.

No more sea.

And then he saw it descending.

The holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

All that preparation. All that beauty. Not for a ceremony. For a permanent dwelling.

And a great voice from the throne said:

Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men.

He will dwell with them.

They shall be his people.

God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

And then the list of things that would no longer exist.

God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

There shall be no more death.

Neither sorrow, nor crying.

Neither shall there be any more pain.

For the former things are passed away.

He that sat on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.

Write: for these words are true and faithful.

The instruction to write it down was significant.

This was not poetry to be interpreted loosely. Not comfort language to soften a hard reality.

True and faithful.

The city had no need of sun or moon to shine in it, for the glory of God lightened it.

The Lamb was the lamp thereof.

The gates were never shut.

The river of the water of life flowed from the throne.

The tree of life bore fruit every month.

The leaves for the healing of the nations.

No more curse.

His servants shall serve him. They shall see his face.

After all of it.

This.
