The earth shook. The sun turned black. And the rich ran for caves.

There was a great earthquake.
Not a regional disaster. A world-altering event.
And the sun became black as sackcloth of hair.
Sackcloth. The color of mourning. The color of a world that has lost something it will never recover.
The full moon became as blood.
Red against the dark sky.
And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth.
As a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
Not slowly. Not one at a time. Shaken loose all at once. Falling like bad fruit in a heavy storm.
And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together.
The sky — what had always been the ceiling of human existence — folding.
Every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
The geography of the world rearranged.
And then the human response.
The kings of the earth. The great men. The rich men. The chief captains. The mighty men.
Every bondman and every free man.
All of them. Every class. Every level of power.
Hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains.
And said to the mountains and rocks: Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb.
They asked to be buried rather than to face what was coming.
They knew who was responsible.
They named Him. The one on the throne. The Lamb.
For the great day of his wrath is come.
And who shall be able to stand?
It was the question of the age.
The only question that ever mattered.
And no cave was deep enough to make it go away.
Scripture — Revelation 6:12
"And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood."

When the sixth seal breaks, even the powerful hide in caves. Status offers no protection from this day.
